Alex Miles

Alex has worked in the FE sector for over 19 years and is incredibly passionate about the benefits of post-16 education and what it can achieve to support social mobility and change peoples lives.   Alex has supported a wide range of training providers, colleges, universities, schools and employers to promote, engage and improve apprenticeship and skills provision over the years and continues to develop & grow the membership & support offered to the sector.   

In 2022 Alex rebranded & relaunched the network to cover all providers & partners across the Yorkshire region & ensure all the activities completed by the business supports the companies refreshed vision & mission of social justice & impact for those who need it the most. Alex leads on the strategic direction, management, and responsibility of the companies business plan and objectives.  Alex ensures members voices, priorities, successes & interests are heard and represented on a number of strategic boards and groups to ensure key issues are discussed and disseminated.  These groups include

  • West Yorks Green job taskforce 
  • Northern Skills Network Board
  • North Yorks NEET Group
  • HEY LEP Skills Network
  • YH Apprenticeship Ambassador Network

Alex also delivers a range of consultancy support to training organisations nationally covering areas including leadership & management, quality improvement, audit & compliance, Governance & oversight and acts as an external challenge and critical friend to many organisations. 

Alex is Home Office approved to deliver WRAP training across FE  & is an Ofsted Inspector for FE & Skills across YH & North East. 

Kelly Townend

Kelly has worked in FE as a teacher / trainer for many years and is passionate about quality improvement of apprenticeship & skills provision. 

Kelly is a qualified teacher, experienced quality manager and is instrumental in maintaining WYLP’s Ofsted grade 2 status and supporting other providers across the network to enhance their observation skills.

Kelly works with a range of training organisations to develop and enhance their quality improvement arrangements.  This includes ensuring effective and robust observation processes, learner journey development, enhancing starting point arrangements, developing robust English & maths plans and completing quality improvement audits.

Kelly is passionate about ensuring learning is inclusive & wellbeing is seen as a priority for all, to help support this agenda Kelly works with a range of schools, colleges & providers across the region to deliver LGBTQ Inclusion in the Workplace training to enhance confidence and knowledge for practitioners.  As well as being a member of the local Suicide Prevention Team & supporting providers with their response to mental health & wellbeing for staff & learners.

In 2022 Kelly launched a Pride in FE pledge for organisations to sign up to and further develop their support for the LGBTQ community and is the chair of the national LGBTQ Collective and a member of the AoC Equality, Diversity & Inclusion group. 

 Kelly represents the network on a number of local Groups to identify opportunities for network members at district level & ensure members voices are heard and information shared. 

Megan Graves

Operations Manager

Megan graduated from York St. John University in 2021 and studied Film Studies and Media. Megan supports the YLP team on all business activities and initiatives. She is the main contact for events & press.

Megan is responsible for managing the YLP & NSN website along with social media platforms and is our marketing guru! 

Megan manages the Department for Education funded, Employer Engagement Project, intended to increase the uptake of SME apprenticeship starts across West & South Yorkshire. She also manages all things Yorkshire Apprenticeship Service.

Sarah Triggs

Finance officer

Sarah provides our finance function & credit control. Sarah has advanced knowledge of the funding mechanics across FE & skills and provides ongoing support & advice for the team & providers.

Harrison Garner

Apprentice Administrator

Harrison is YLP’s very own apprentice. He started with the team in February 2023 and supports on daily activities & is a data wiz.
