YLP can help coordinate levy funding and forecasting, workforce development planning, liaising with training organisations, supporting apprenticeship service requirements and act as the impartial broker for all aspects of apprenticeships.

Non-Levy Employers:

If you are an employer with a payroll of less than £3 million, you are not required to pay the apprenticeship levy and are therefore non-levy funded employer.

Non-levy employers will share the cost of apprenticeship training with the Government and this is known as co-investment.   The current co-investment requirement is 5% of the of apprenticeship funding, with the Government contributing the remaining 95%.  The apprenticeship funding is based on a series of funding bands and these are negotiated between the employer and the training provider.

Currently non-levy employers can only work with approved training providers who have been allocated funds from the Skills Funding Agency.  The Apprenticeship digital service is only open to levy employers at this time, but the hope is to move all employers onto the apprenticeship service in 2020.

Employers will need to agree a payment schedule with their chosen provider and pay them directly for the training. The provider must prove that you have paid your contributions as a condition of government paying its contribution.

To choose training you can use the ‘Find apprenticeship training’ service to select an approved apprenticeship training provider.

YLP can help support non-levy employers with planning their training requirements, understanding the different apprentice standards and signposting to high quality approved training providers.  If you want to know more please contact the YLP office on 01274 665454 or email info@wylp.org.uk

“I contacted YLP as an employer who was trying to understand the intricacies of the apprenticeship levy scheme. The advantage of using YLP is that they can give informed, unbiased advice about the whole apprenticeship system. This can be from finding the right candidates, and how to go about doing so, to
understanding and using the Apprenticeship digital account system.
I found YLP to be extremely knowledgeable but in a way that was not patronising at all. Something I very much appreciated as someone who was completely new to Apprenticeships. However, they are also happy to learn new information from other sources.
Alex always responds quickly to any requests I may have, which is essential in this fast-paced environment.
Thank you, Alex and YLP!”
