| Successful Wakefield Apprenticeship Evening |
|
On Monday 25 February the third annual Wakefield Apprenticeship Evening took place at the Chasley Hotel, Wakefield. This year it was a special occasion as it also marked the start of the Learning and Skills Council’s National Apprenticeship Week, which aimed to celebrate success and encourage more employers to take on Apprentices. The event invited 4500 Year 11 young people and allowed learners in the Wakefield district to find out more about Apprenticeships, including the different skills that could be gained, where they could train, the pay and the prospects for gaining a degree following their training.More than 500 young people and their parents attended the event where they talked to training providers who offered Apprenticeships in the district. The evening was organised by West Yorkshire Learning Providers with sponsorship from Wakefield MDC and Apprenticesgohigher, a Wakefield College Aimhigher project. One lucky pupil from Outwood Grange was picked as the prize winner for the Nintendo DS, this will be presented at Year 11 assembly after Easter.
