What is it going to cost me?

You pay them the ‘going rate’ for the job and the training costs you nothing*.

Because Apprentices have employed status, you will need to pay them a wage, which very much depends on the ‘going rate’ for your trade although, since 2005 a minimum wage of £80 per week has been introduced. You can get advice on an appropriate wage from the training provider, but typical rates range from £90 per week in hairdressing to >£120 per week in electrical installation.

*All training costs for 16–18 year olds will be free, however, there is an expectation that employers will contribute to the training of Apprentices over the age of 19. A fee is usually charged for 19.apprentices within the 19-24 age range and this may differ between institutions
